Shaker Scoop Air Cleaner

Post by BobbyFord »

I just ordered this today. I'll be doing a write-up with pics. This scoop is alloy just like the original 69-70 Mustangs had. I will have to fab the lower part of the air cleaner because of the engine offset on our trucks. My intent is to use a K&N X-Stream filter assembly with the scoop.

I think that's going to be a tall air cleaner. :)

Should be a cool mod.

Fitment is going to be tricky. I don't have a hood on my truck yet, but just eyeballing, it seems I might have clearance issues with the hood bracing with the current K&N that I have. I have a Stealth intake on my 460.

That's good to know. I have a 1" spacer under the carb and the Stealth intake is already tall. I'm going to try to get together with my buddy and make something out of aluminum. I'm going to run the flapper in the scoop but I'm thinking about an aluminum dual snorkel air cleaner base with ducting to the core support.

I thought about putting a shaker on my Tbird. I always liked the Torino scoop. Just something different, I guess. I think the Mustang scoop will go better with the lines on your truck, though.

Nice scoop and cool idea. The upper portion looks just like the shaker scoop on my 2003 Azure Blue Mach 1.

I also think the '71-'73 Mach 1 NACA hood scoops grafted into an F-series hood, with the functional ram air ducting attached to the underside of the truck hood, would be a cool modification too.

It will be nice to get back to work on the truck after the setbacks last year. :)

It's funny, all of that stuff is available in some pretty good quality repro.

Until just a few years ago, that was not so. I have a '68 deluxe coupe Mustang I bought in 1982 when I was 15. It has a fancier interior than a base model '68 Mustang; roof console with map lights, floor console, deluxe door panels, etc. Until a number of years ago, many of these interior pieces were not available in new reproduction.

I believe Dynacorn is the one reproducing the '71-'73 Mach 1 ram air ducting components and the '71-'73 NACA hoods too.

A lot of people do not like the 71-73 cars but my dad had a 71 429SCJ car that was pretty fun to drive.

I think the best looking fastback ("sports roof" from '69 up, if you want to be correct) was the '69 & '70 models followed by the '67/'68 then the '65/'66.

....back to shakers, this is the shaker on my '03 Mach 1.
