Last year I got 9 mpg towing my car with my camper on doing 55. This year when I was a following a friend at 70 I got 6. No more 70 mph towing. One long road trip I got 13. I have 68 Camper special 390 engine Performer intake and 600 Holley carb. Dual exhaust.

9 that's kinda low even on a f-250 with a 390 What jets do you have on the main side? And what gears do you have in the back? You must be a automatic then.

Every time I have filled my truck I get 12-14 MPG and that's with my 360 with 130k on it with stock drive train. A lot of the changes these guys are saying are great but the biggest change needs to be behind the wheel. When I drive my dads 04 grand marquis or my 00 grand marquis I get 28 mpg at 65 and my dad gets 22 with the same speed, same wind, and everything....... His foot just weighs more i guess

I get 12 with my F-250 and a 390 but I have a stick/manual trans. And I am also jetted down I think it was #62 if memory is correct. But I do not have a 9" rear to put in 3.00 gears or anything. So that's kinda hurting the MPG. But I can pull a nice 7500# load with ease. Stopping is a whole new story.

I have heard of the fe 390 getting 17mpg with a quadrajet. My autolite wet dead on me when I was strapped for cash so I threw on a quad I had sitting around from a 80's 350 blazer. Was hell to rig up without buying more than an adaptor but made it work and currently get about 12mpg around town. I got a 360 though. I got a 2brl to 4 brl adaptor and a square to spread boar adaptor an alen wrench hose clamped to a linkage for kick down and fabed up a throttle linkage. It is a crazy setup but has worked for over a year now. If it ain't droke don't fix it. Lol

I respect and appreciate those that R driven to find ways to improve the MPG with the FE. As 4 me, I bought my 68 CS, 390, C6, to enjoy not 4 MPG. I drive my other vehicle for the MPG and just enjoy my 6th Ford Truck. 1 had the 300, 1 had the 302, 1 had the Trition 5.4, 3 ran the 390. My #1 is the 390.

WOW...I thought I was the only guy who stacked up adapters like hotcakes! I once stacked 4 plates up to fit a weber off a volkswagen to a small straight six. I started and idled beautifully yet...sadly...the weber was not enough carb to achieve the higher revs needed to be driveable. darn!

I sure wouldn't complain about 9 out of that rig. The camper alone makes you so aerodynamic. :D Nice looking pkg. Straight out of the early '70s

the 1602 edelbrock is very similar to the Q-jet and does well right out of the box on MPG.
