I'll be saving this post topic because, I just got cold feet.
I'll just wait and buy the right pistons, springs, retainers, and then put everything back together with at a good speed shop..
For sure I will be back though.

You should have different springs on the exhaust so they don't coil bind by what he said .600 is it.

Now you can go to Piston Mfgs and tell them the cam lift, the rod information and bore, the compression you want and they can tell you what piston you need or cut the top eyebrow to clear.

Arias Pistons http://www.ariaspistons.com/index.html I bought my first set from them in 1970

Take your pick. What compression does the cam like?

We can help you get this done but I definitely think you should buy Lunati's kit to go with it they usually aren't that expensive (122.00 Summit Racing).

Checking the clearances isn't that difficult, I'm just saying that it has got to be done on your engine, just because it worked (or didn't work) for someone else doesn't mean it will (or won't) work for you.

We still need to know what pistons you have... (Did "enginebuilder1" do the whole engine or just the heads?)

So, you wouldn't entertain some alternate cam choice suggestions from us that might give you similar performance with out such a high lift? (and if you are set on that cam I can understand that, it is just a question)

Summit used to carry a valve relief cutter that looked like a valve, you put it in the head and spun it with a drill, can't find them now... :hmm:

Those cutters ruined more pistons than I have owned is probably why they are gone. If is like the old valve guide cutters they made. You left the piston at tdc dropped the spring and retainer coated the valve stem with grease and cut the guide using the stem as a pilot shaft. Guys would be in a hurry and cut too much off the top of the guide and make it too short.

@ Sport71 you would save yourself a fortune and have a hot motor just by backing off on that cam a bit.

They just built the heads.

O.K. Here are a few ideas. (when I make comparisons its to the 30507)

http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1676&gid=287 (this one may idle rougher, I'd expect everything else to be similar)
Voodoo - Hydraulic, Hot street or bracket cam for 390 c.i. engines or heavier 427-428 c.i. vehicles. Will need 9.5 or better compression, 2800-3000 stall speed converter and 3.55-3.73 gears. Likes up to 200 HP nitrous. Cam has a very rough idle quality!

http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1675&gid=287 (a little milder, might be a better choice if you find the compression is lower)
Voodoo - Hydraulic. High performance street/strip cam for 390 c.i. Excellent camshaft for 427 or 428 touring type vehicles with 9:1-9:5 compression ratio. Use 2200-2400 stall speed converter with 3.23-3.55 rear gears. Cam has a very noticeable idle quality!

http://www.crower.com/misc/cam_spec/cam ... 6&x=29&y=7 (I'd expect it to be quite similar to the 30507)
HI-DRAULIC HAULER / PERFORMANCE LEVEL 5 - Violent mid- range acceleration and torque. RPM Power Range: 2700 to 6500

All of these are assuming you have at least 9.0:1 compression. You will still have to check things and do the break in shuffle but I think they have a much better chance of being no muss, no fuss, the Crower will for sure unless something is way out of whack.

Well I love the thing and if it took a bit more to work witch it hasnt I would do it. I love that 30507 it rocks :D Remember other than frictional high lift rates make a roller cam work as well as it does.

That's great news because, I thought it was the lift that was the power out put.

With the Crower I don't have to wory much about springs, guides, ect..

Very true Crower makes a lot of cams and kits. I have used Crowers in every car or truck I built except 3, 1 General Kinetics for a 405 Pontiac, 1 Manley L88 Cheater cam for a 396 and one Edelbrock for a friend's 90 cid Harley.

I recently spec'd that Crower 16265 for a friend's Dirt racer with the spring and lifter kit.

I would think it would present no problems as long as you don't get the heads off and find it has some kind super weird totally flat piston with no eyebrows... You also could get the heads off and find it has some kind of piston with nice eyebrows and the original Lunati you wanted will work fine. I'm definitely not recommending it, but you also wouldn't be the first guy that cut eyebrows with a die grinder or dremel either if you took a mind to :shh: .

Crower and Lunati both make nice cams, I almost ran a solid lifter Lunati (a 305A1) in mine but ended up with a Crower roller.

http://www.crower.com/misc/cam_spec/cam ... 2&x=42&y=8

I have Cobra Jet Valves, Speed Pro L2291F flat top pistons at zero deck and C8AE-H heads that were decked to 66cc chambers with composition head gaskets. So I would say anything with similar timing and .582 or less would be a fairly safe bet.

I still advise checking everything closely, but I think anyone of the 3 I posted would have a much better chance of not needing any changes to work, the Crower is as close to a sure thing as there is.

Can't wait to see what pistons it has...

Hot Rod FE, what pistons are you running?

That with 72cc heads is good for 10.25 to 1 Assuming they are double eyebrow.

:? In 5 pages of talking no one asked "What are you going to use this truck for?"

Street racing? because it won't be a very good daily driver unless you own a gas well.
