Interesting. Stumbled across this.
Looks like a ZF5??
For 100 bucks???
I don't know anything about the ZF5 and how to set it up behind a cummins though so maybe i'd still be better off finding a $800+ 2WD NV4500?

It is a ZF5 and it doesn't say anything about milage or overall condition. I would be cautious at that price. But I think you are also better off just getting a nice NV4500 like you mentioned. Would be a lot easier.

That's an S5-47. Nice tranny IMO.

I had one exactly like that, same year even. The bellhousing cracked in a spiral from just below the starter opening to where the reverse light switch is on the other side.

If you choose the ZF give me a call for the adapter.

If you fellows get stuck for an intercooler this company can make a custom at a reasonable price. Also, they know about as much as anyone about turbos.

Corky bell is a friend of mine and has helped me on a couple of projects, one being a Bonneville project/Miata motor that made 674 FWHP with a 1.8 liter, the other a Lysolm supercharged/intercooled street Miata that made 257 RWHP on a stock block/head.

Hi everyone,

New to Fordification but also in the middle of a 6bt conversion. This whole intercooler thing is bugging the crap out of me, Sounds to me like an intercooler out of a 7.3 or a 6.0 ford its the closest (best fit). But they arent good intercoolers for big power (modded) cummins. So theres tons of diesels out there that have intercoolers there has got to be something out there that we can use that know one has stumbled on yet. I was wondering what about an intercooler out of a farm tractor?

A quick and easy answer is to find what will fit and go from there.

Also be ready to define big power and your intended use / duty.

I built mine as a general duty truck, mild work to the pump but not enough to hurt the rest of the drive line.

Has anyone used the original ford rad from a 360 for a 6bt conversion? is it enough to cool it proper?

What 6BT? What HP? What kind of use- Towing, fun, DD?

A 160HP 12 valve needs like 1/2 the radiator a 390 does. A 325HP commonrail towing 30K through mountains needs a radiator 3 times the size.

Look at what is used in OE applications for a given HP rating and use of the engine you are using. If you want to tow 30K with 500 HP and 900 lb/ft you will not keep the engine cool easily. If you have a 160/400 engine you can do whatever you want with it and never worry about temp.

1996 cummins 12 valve with p7100 pump plan on building to 450hp as a daily driver. Not a lot of heavy towing not many big hills. Mostly a fun daily driver being driven like an old man with the odd 18 year old moments haha. I was gonna run the stock ford rad and just watch mt temps and see but it sounds like i will need to get something a little bigger.
