What to look for to identify a 360
Hi everyone. Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 1972 ford f250 to check out the 360 engine that is in it. I have a 1967 f100 with a 6 cylinder 240 and a standard tremek transmission and I want to put the 360 in my truck. I don't know if the 360 is the original engine that the f250 came with. I read that with fe engine blocks a change to watch out for when identifying fe blocks is the engine mount bolt holes on pre-1965 fe engines had two bolt engine mounts while those from 1965 and later had three bolt engine mounts. The seller sent me a picture of the engine mount and I can't tell if it is 2 or 3 bolts. Can anyone tell from the picture if it is 2 or 3 bolts. Another question is what can I look at to identify the engine and if it is a 1965 or later and if it is a 360. My last question is do I have it right that the 360 will fit the perches from my 6 cylinder 240 and will bolt right up to my standard tremec transmission. Thanks

The 360 will use the 6 cylinder perches.
The Tremec will bolt up with a 600 dollar plus bellhousing.
65 and later had 4 motor mount bolt holes on the side of the block.
The date code for the block is between the oil filter mount and the oil pan rail.

Does anyone know what bell housing would work between a 360 and a standard tremec transmission with a clutch. Thanks

Does it still have the factory 3 speed transmission in it
Or has it been changed out to the 5 speed later model trans
Most call the original trans a 3 speed top loader
It will work with a C5T bell housing....about 50 bucks

No need for $600 QT bell.... A stock FE bell will be fine if you order a short shaft TKO. Contact Bruce or Paul at Modern Driveline... they set me up with a TKO and it fit like a flesh tuxedo. The short shaft swap was only $75... uses the mechanical linkage too.tnlprt wrote:The 360 will use the 6 cylinder perches.
