Possible temporary downtime(s) this evening (3/28/09)

Post by FORDification »

As most of you know, there used to be a 'Did You Know' feature at the top of the forum pages, with a different snippet of information that was constantly changing. It was (I thought) one of the more cool forum features. However, when we upgraded the forum software last fall, I discovered that the coding to incorporate that in the old software wouldn't work with the new version, and so I was unable to add it.

I believe I've now found something that will work, so I'm planning on spending this evening (3/29/09) trying to incorporate this back into the forum pages. However, as things usually go, there's always a hiccup or two while I'm tweaking the software code, during which time things get temporarily messed up (or non-functional). So if everything goes smoothly, you'll just suddenly start seeing the new Did You Know feature...but if I mess up along the way, there might occasionally be a temporary hiccup where either the pages won't be available or they'll be all messed up. If this happens, it'll be fixed again within a matter of minutes, but I just wanted to let everyone know what's going on. Don't freak out if things aren't immediately available or look screwy...it's not you, it's just me, getting my hands dirty with php coding. :D

Wish me luck! I'm going in!

Well, I've incorporated the appropriate code...however, the Did You Know is now only being shown on the forum's Index page, not any of the forum threads. I'm going to leave it as-is for the time being and see if I can find something that will work on ALL pages, not just the front.

YAY Thanks Keith. How hard would it be to add in the quick-reply feature again for lazy people like me :D

i'd rather have the spelling thing back first. the quick reply makes me not look at my spelling or spacing of my letters.
