Quick up date. The frame got painted with por15 from the front suspension back. Me and paint. Two things that don’t work out well. Just getting started and I tipped over the can of por15 onto the cardboard I use as a drop mat.
Now the drop mat is being used as a paint can. Por15 is expensive.
Frame done. Paint dry. Moved outside for now.
Pushed the cab, frame and box into the garage and removed the cab..
Small disaster there. My daughter was helping and let the engine hoist down too fast and the cab swung into the engine hoist.
Another couple of scratches to add to the character.
Drove to the border and picked up my parts from Dennis Carpenter. New cab mounts, fenders, front cab mounts
Bought a spot weld cutter and started on the front mounts.. Broke the teeth on the spot weld cutter on the first 10 spots.
Buy more cutters. Measure the mounting hole of the Lh mount. Take the mount off and find rust holes in the floor.
The front mount was part of the cab floor. Kick plate rusted at the bottom edge and the lip to hold the weather stripping rusted away..
Back to the parts truck and cut some metal from the old rusty box for the floor pan. Clean off the rust and bend and cut to fit..
Weld that in place.
Now that kick plate. Mmm? I need a curved lip to hold the weather stripping and a piece for the kick plate.
Back to the parts cab. Rear top corner of the cab is a 90 degree bend for the weather stripping.
Make a card board template of the kick plate and lip.. zip cut the piece from the parts cab top lh panel.
Lots of trial error fitting the weld it in. Floor and kick plate took one day.
Fit up the new cab mount. Drilled a few holes to plug weld. Paint the areas not being welded with por15.
Weld in the mount. In hind site the plug welds were a pain to weld. Won’t be doing that on the rh side.
Buff the welded areas and paint it all with por15.
Repeat for the rh side. Only a small 2x3 floor patch needed on it. Buy hey I’m a expert on this now! Not!
Off to work tomorrow for two weeks then holidays. So I’ll make some progress when I get back

Sometimes its not the work but the work that goes into doing the work that will test your patience! Despite some of the frustrations it sounds like your making some good progress!

My old cab mount.
The piece I cut out of cab floor. The old cab mount was part of my floor.
The piece I cut out of the kick plate. Bottom edge next to the cab floor was rusted through and the lip for the weather stripping was just about gone.
I thought it was pretty good that I was able to cut the rh rear corner from my parts cab get get a new weatherstripping lip and kick plate. That purchase is paying off just in bits and pieces.

The small hole I had to deal with on the rh side.
Easy after a whole day on the lh side.

Step by step. I'm working on a 1968 Mercury "stepside". I'm also in Alberta. Maybe we'll cross paths with our Mercs some day. :)
