You may laugh at how i did it. After trying coca cola to no avail i soaked them in apple cider vinegar for a week. Worked great. But not trying to fool anyone. Their painted over.
Also new wheels and rims.

Looks good so far.BTW why did you not keep those KILLER split rims! :lol: They are a pain it there tight :doh: Good luck with your build

Just a suggestion, but when you get it back together I would remove the plugs and spin the motor with the starter and
be sure your getting a good supply of oil to the rockers.

Well I'm running again without smoke and sounding pretty good. Next step is to make a home made throttle linkage as the stock one is sloppy and sticky at the same time. Saw a home made kit over on ford-truck.com . Anybody done this before?

What did you end up doing to the head and what did you find?

The stock trapeze carb linkage is pretty clever and worth making work correctly. It actually makes the throttle opening linear and smoother vs. a simple rod. Per other options, pull one off a later model dentside.

Yeah i didn't remove the heads. Just the intake manifold. Things are running smooth for now.

I was driving home tonight and felt/heard a rattle from the back end. I had in mind that when i bought the truck in January the PO had the cab on but not bolted. I bought the bolts back then and got them all on except the one above the rear fuel tank but more recently realized i probably hadn't tightened them enough. Indeed they were a bit loose. After tightening them i tried moving the bed, seemed good. Then i tried the cab and THAT seemed to move more. Checked the cab mounts. Check them out.

The passenger side had some give to it, the drivers side seems better. Also, there is a hole through on the passenger floor board.

Just wondering what is involved in repairing these? Do i have to remove the cab, which means removing the engine etc? I hadn't intended to chase rust on this thing but this seems a bit problematic.

Hi everyone. Well I got started on fighting the rust. I contemplated buying a welder and learning but looking back I'm glad I got someone to do it that new what he was doing. I'm attacking it in parts as I don't have the money to do it all. But I managed to deal with the whole passenger side. New cab mount door pillar and floor pan as well as patches on the inner wheel well and some other spots.

Been excited to get this done because now I can put in the new carpet and upholstery that's been sitting in the garage. I also am not loosing little bits out the hole i had in the floor/side of the cab and not freezing from the air coming in.

Good deal. Surprisingly, the crappy heater in these trucks will run you out when the cab is sealed up right.

I'm also painting some spare parts to see if I want to paint the truck. This was done with a rattle can. I'll probably do the whole thing in the summer.

One thing I had heard about when getting welding done was to get parts from DC as other guys were not good fit etc. Well of course I ignored sound wisdom and went for the cheaper option. So don't do that by the way. :doh: the cheaper floor pan and door pillar were not the right fit so the time the welder took reshaping them more than made up for the difference in cost to buy the better product. Why don't I learn!! :cry:

That looks great for a rattle can! I don't know why more people don't do that. Cans nowadays spray real nice and lay flat too. I did the whole interior of my last truck with cans and it looked like a pro did it!

Yeah. I hope to be able to do a decent job without spending a fortune. That piece had etching primer, then three coats of white. Only one of blue (not finished yet). Some parts of the truck will need rust converter.
