rollback into trailer!?

Post by boomosby »

hey guys, was looking to buy a rollback for a while. a guy came up with a 79 rollback/351 4 speed. wanted to much so i passed. then he chopped of can and engine and now only has rollback apparratus and rear frame. i have heard of people using pickup truck beds as trailer. could a rollback body and frame become a trailer?

i had some heavy trailers and cars and when loading them put aot of stress on rear hitch, even lifting up the rear of truck. i now have a 96 f350 dually. but even still, it would be wise to mount that kind of thing on the ball i am assuming? it would have to be a gooseneck setup?

what do you guys thing? whats the best direction to go here. i would had gone over and unbolted the cab and axles and all off the truck to save the frame.....but the guy couldnt be bothered i guess.

is it reasonable to think that this thing can become a trailer? is it to heavy? i am not sure if weight is the issues as it will have dually wheels, but when loading, will it put to much stress on the hitch? or should it be gooseneck? or should i just go and find another truck to measure up?

Anything is possible. I think it can be done, you may want to install some type of jacks at the back of the trailer. That would eliminate some of the stress and stop the unit from trying to lift the tow vehicle. You may also need to move the axle forward for better weight distribution. Like I said anything is possible, just depends how much time and effort you want to invest to make a safe unit.

maybe an axle in the front so it is like a tow bar? I think it should probably be a gooseneck though. just my :2cents:

Anything is doable. I would go with the goose neck for sure. What are you going to do about hydro power for the bed? Maybe have an on board power head to run the trailer?
