It can be either Yankee Ingenuity or just plain Cheap Solution. Needed something quick and didn't want to brake the bank.

My next job is cleaning the rear springs and hangers. I picked up some distilled water, washing soda, container, wiring and have a battery charger. I am going to de-rust using electrolysis. I will take pictures once I get set-up some and cooking the parts.

So I through my front axle u-bolt brackets in the Electrolysis Bath and they came out quite clean. Just some wire brushing. I let them dry and brought them to work and blasted them quick, they are ready for primer now. I need to work on the rear springs and get them set so I can verify the spring hanger location and how many degree spacers are needed.

Started relocating the rear axle spring hangers. When I changed out the front hanger it has pulled the axle forward. This causes the driveshaft to not fit. So I have the get the placement set so I can get the spring hangers mounted so I know what holes can be welded up and what I need to drill. Should have pictures tomorrow.

Well I had time on Sunday to work on the truck and finalize the rear axle location. Once I was able to get the full slip/travel out of the slip joint things went much better. Now I have to mark the hole and drill them. Next is to drop the transfer case so I can rotate the frame and start fixing the cross members.

Well got the rear spring brackets in their finally location. So I started removing the drive shafts. Found the front one frozen at the slip joint. The rear is dented, so now I need two drive shafts and I have had zero luck finding any. Does anyone have a front and rear drive shafts they want to part with?

I went through my extra parts and located 2 rear drive shafts and one extra center drive shaft, so that issue is handled. I did get the front slip joint to move but it is junk do to rust, have to get it rebuilt. I was also able to remove the transfer case and rotate the frame and drill all the holes for the rear spring shackles.

Getting small things done. I have decided that I am going to use a 1988 Chevy Suburban 31 Gallon gas tank.

Made a Chevy Suburban Fuel Tank mock-up out of cardboard to see how it would fit. After talking to a couple of guys who are doing the same conversion with the 25 Gallon Plastic tank it would appear to be a good fit. They measured the outside dims as 26" x 26" x 11" and the 31 Gallon tank is 2" deeper at 13". The only issue is the sending unit has to be modified to use a Ford rheostat.

Got to go to the Junkyard this past weekend. Found a Blazer that had the tank still in it but the yard had put a hole in it to remove the gas. I was able to get good measurements and locate a skid plate to remove another day. I did get a rebuilt alternator out of a 96 Taurus, it is the 130amp one with the wiring for $26. Hope to go back tomorrow and get the skip plate and the sending unit out of the blazer. I will just buy a brand new 31 gallon tank online.
