I have a question for the 4x4 guys. I am looking to flip the u-bolts on the front axle. Has anyone done this so you can provide a parts list of what I need? I have hung it up once before on the u-bolts while playing and don't want to do it again.

Just curious what your hoping to gain from flipping the U bolts. A previous owner of mine chopped them shorter for more clearance

I actually hung the u-bolts up on an obstacle, had to use a pry bar to lift them off. If I flip the u-bolts there will only be the rounded portion of the bolts at the bottom. I may try and design something to protect the nuts like a small skid plate.

Got a few things done. Set the new cross member in place and bolted it up. I want to hang the front springs and get it back on its wheels so I can complete the rear tank install.

Getting there. I hope to get some more done this weekend. I have some different frame cab mounts to put in place of the rotted out ones. My problem is trying to clean the gunk and undercoating off them. Anyone have some trips?

Got some work done on the rear frame area. Installed the new rear cross member and rear spring shackles. Also did a little more painting on the rear frame.

I reconditioned one rear spring, hope to do the other on Friday if the weather holds. I have to press in the new spring bushings since no one makes replacement poly bushings. Then I want to hang them on the frame.

I hate to say it but the gm tank looks to fit really well. Somewhat better than the other b2 tanks and such i have seen. Enjoying this build keep it going!

Yes, I was bummed out when the Bronco tanks turned out to be too wide. I was able to get a skid plate for the GM tank cheap too. I finished the last spring Friday. The wife and I spent Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning cleaning the siding on the garage.

So on travel for work today and tomorrow, hope to get back on the rear springs maybe Friday. Need to clean and paint the small 1" block that will be on there, as well as bend the retaining tabs back down on the spring pack once the new center pins are installed. The graphite paint is very slippery even just to handle the springs. Coverage was pretty good as I used a quart container and a brush to apply two generous coats to the scaled and sanded leaves. For 47 year old springs they were in good shape.
