1968 revived

Thought I would share my current project. 1968 ford f100 2wd long box


Project started in Nov and will be completed by spring of 15. Local college automotive class is in charge of the front and rear end swap, engine and tranny swap. A good friend is the teacher their and offered to get the project going labor free. Truck had a 1966 352 with a 4 speed tranny, switching to a 5.3 vortec mated with a 6 speed t56 manual tranny. The front end crown vic swap is complete along with the 8.8 posi rear end. No body work for now, just going to run it for awhile after it's complete. The shop also has a chassis dyno and they are projecting 300 hp to the wheels. They have done quite a few 5.3 vortec conversions so I'm looking forward to the new power plant. A cam and headers will be installed too.

Here is the truck with the crown vic supplied parts. Wheels and a wax job and she will be ready for the streets. Having trouble deciding on 18s all the way around or 18s and 20s on the rear. 40 series 275-295 on the rear and 40 series 245 on the front. Any opinions on the wheel selection? Thanks.

Great truck! And I think it's awesome that a college auto class is pitching in. Bought time they taught our kids something besides computers and sensors.

That is exactly what my friend wanted, the instructor, the young ones are enjoying it. Some old school. I really wanted to keep the 352 and 4 speed, but they were going to have trouble with the oil pump and the crown vic swap. For sure you could work around it, but you know how it goes. It was going to be about a 4 grand engine rebuild and with this route im spending less money, will have more power and get a 6 speed. Im not too picky, its free labor.

Truck was purchased by my dad in 1984, he sold it in 1996, he passed away in 08, i bought it back in late 08 from a former class mate of mine in high schoo, used it for a wood hauling truck around my acreage. Engine was weak, brake lines were breaking...ect ect ect.


I'm just really excited to get it going again and ready to smoke the tires off. Many memories in that truck, learned how to drive on and will teach my 9 year old how to drive with it. only he gets power steering, brakes and clutch hahah.

Definitely going to drop the rear gears this winter! Haha 6th gear really isn't needed with the current rear end.
