Here's a little update as the truck is nearing the final stages. :D Both cab corners are welded and ground down and they turned out nicely. The best part is that the box will be covering most of it, so it doesn't need to be perfect. Once it actually starts feeling like spring I'll be able to get a lot of the filling done on the box and the rest of the truck. There really isn't that much that needs to be done other than the corners, two spots on the hood, and some minor dings and dents on the box. My dad and I already did a lot of filling over summer, so at least we have a good start.

By the way, I passed my driver's test last week with only four points off! (stupid blind spots...) Now I really can't wait to take her for a ride!

Hey guys, its been awhile since I last updated, so here goes. Nothing too interesting going on a the moment other than a crap load of sanding. I'm almost finished with all of the filler on the cab, and it really did not need that much. The cab corners have a little more filler on them than I would have liked, but they look good. My main goal right now is to get the back of the cab and the front of the box primed and painted to I can put the box back on and finish the rest of the body work as a complete truck.

It's slowly getting there, and I hope to have it painted for the Iola Old Car show in July. The theme this year is trucks and dodge chargers, so I would be able to park in the show for free.

Good progress and now you have set a dead line to finish. :thup: What color are you planning to spray on the truck?

Thanks, the truck is really starting to take shape. It's also a blast to drive. I'm going to get the truck titled and registered as soon as possible so I can start driving it and work any bugs out of it. I sure hope I can make the deadline for the show. I plan to paint the truck with something close to the original harbor blue, similar to the interior.

I also have a few more updates to report. The back of the cab and the front of the box are both in primer, so I was able to get the bed back on the truck last Sunday. When it comes time to paint, we will just unbolt it and slide it back far enough to shoot it.

I didn't get a full shot of the cab, but these show how nice the lines match up.

The front of the box isn't completely primed because I had caulked the seams and it wasn't dry yet.

The fenders also needed to be notched near the bottom for the fender to sit flush with the door, and since the original mounting points for the fender had rotted off, my dad and I made up two of these...

They work well and are extremely sturdy.

That isn't all, we also decided to mess with the mangled bump on the passenger side of the bed. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

We were going to just use body filler, but the dents were too deep and caused too much damage, so out came the grinder and the 200 foot extension cord! (we really need to invest in some cordless tools :lol: ) We ended up cutting a section of the bump from my old box to use as a patch panel. I'ts a good thing we didn't scrap it.

That thing is looking sweet! :thup: I've just been catching up with this entire thread and you've made some remarkable progress keep it up and keep posting.

Thanks, the truck was going to be scrapped, and the engine used for a stock car, so my Great Grandpa was glad to see us take it home.

Project bump replacement is finished. :D It took about 5-6 hours total including filler. My dad did all of the prep work by cutting out the old metal and getting the patch in place on Friday. I'm really glad that all of the major body work is done and the remaining work should be fairly simple from this point on.

Really? Got one of each - my '71 F350 and a '67 Charger. Shame it's 2100 miles away :o

I had a very similar dent in the side of my bed in the exact same place. I ended up cutting an access hole in the inside of the bed. I then was able to pound the dent out with a 4 inch wide brick chisel and a hand sledge. Nothing else worked due to the high crown of the area and the thickness of the metal. I thought about going your route but I think my method was a little less work.
1967 F-100 4x4 custom cab.
