I would seriously NEVER take it outside when it's done...if it were mine. That is a top shelf restoration you got going on.

Gents, thanks for the posts, you're all too kind. SkyBlue - it's kinda funny isn't it? When complete this beast will have tons of hp, new parts everywhere, and be soundly set up for all sorts of crazy off-road adventure. But I'm not sure it will ever see rain!!

Thanks again,
Kevyn

Nothing exciting, but here are a few more recent pics. Starting to make brake lines and getting ready to begin building the Dana 44. Should have NP 435 and Dana transfer case pics tomorrow - after rebuild. Thanks for all the posts!

Just picked up my Dana 24 and NP435 from the gear shop in Council Bluffs, IA. They look pretty good!

Got a little work done today, finished back axles and put the rear tires on. I re-used my old e-brake cables, touched up with a little paint. We bolted up the Dana 44, and put the new bearings in the knuckles - this takes a little patience and trial & error to get the bearing load correct. With any luck, we'll finish the front axle this week, and start on the engine and transmission soon.

Interesting thing, I have four identical sized Ford 16.5" rims, but two would not fit over the rear axle housing??? I've never seen that, I assume they are off of something else? Thankfully, they fit the front no problem. Any ideas?

It's been a while since this frame has been on tires - I forgot how high these Highboys sit, even with stock tires...

That's a fine job you're doing there by the looks of it. Just thought I might mention to you that you may consider fabricating a brace from the bottom of the Dana 24 transfer up to the crossmember in front of the 24 running up at an angle. It takes any jiggle out of it and makes it study like a transmission mounted transfer, especially when you dump the clutch on that FE powered beast. Should be a lot easier with the body off. Keep up the good work.

Been a while since I've posted, it's good to be back. I've spent entirely too much time tracking down brake parts lately....We finished most of the brakes and dropped in the 390 and transmission today. We also bolted on the transfer case. We mocked up the power steering pump and alternator, fan, etc.

For the new steering gear box, we've cut out part of the radiator support and radiator. The 1.5"x6" piece we cut out included one of the radiator screws, so we actually moved the mount and welded it up so there is still two screws on each side. This whole process took a while, but the power steering will be worth it. i'll get some pics posted.

A few weeks back we put the 390 on the dynometer at Willard Auto Machine here in Omaha, I've never done this, good time! The expert broke it in and fine tuned everything for an hour, including carb jets and timing. After several runs, the final numbers were 371hp and 444 lbs. of torque. The engine was built for torque, and it delivered at all rpm's.

We hope to start bending lines soon, and installing the gas tank.

Thanks for the idea 70 Hi-Boy.

Some progress today, got the Warn hubs on and the driveshafts. Started the brakelines, and promptly screwed up 3! :x

Hope to get the lines done, the fuel tank mounted, and then this chassis is off to the body shop for sheet metal.
