Re: The Green Beast **Oil Pump In Lots Of Parts Cleaned**

Post by ford4x4fun »

Hey Jeff,

Yeah I am going to replace the freeze plugs after I paint it. Paint just doesn't seam to stick to them. So I will do that after I am done with it.

I didn't even know they made an oil pump primer. I will get one just to save any problems with the motor. I am going to run the motor for about 75 miles when I first get it running than change the oil again I blew it out real good after cleaning up the motor but I am sure there is a lot crap still inside it. Than probably about a 4 to 500 mile run and changing it again. I am really nervous after having it open I don't want to jack anything up after all of this work.

OH, and yeah we had a frost on this morning I think about 28 degrees. We are suppose to have another one tonight.

Jeff, your not joking it was a cold morning again today. But the good news is by 10 it is back up to the mid 50's.

OK, UPDATE:

10 hours of working on these things over 3 days. Hand scrubbing because I can't get my sand blaster working quite right at the moment. But here they are.

Image

The stuff I used. Once I got the paint remover they finished up in about 3 hours. And the real course steel wool helped a lot too. The rubber gloves are to ease the burning from playing with the paint remover.

OK Gentlemen,

So this is what I got done the second half of today. I wasn't planning on getting this far so it is nice to be ahead of schedule just a little. But I still don't think I will have it put back together and drive her into work on the 9th.

The Motor Prepped For Paint I.E. hopefully I got all the oil and grease off of it. Me and my youngest worked on it for about 3 hours this afternoon.

Oh and the quality of photos is a little bad because I lost my sun light.

Image

A lot of painted parts!

And last but not least the dreaded springs. I don't know if any of you all have every painted springs with a brush but it isn't fun. Hopefully the POR15 holds up to the flex of these things.

So now cook dinner and clean up my mess. I hate it when the wife works late!

Hey billy...all this is,is a glorified screwgun shaft...just did it myself as a matter of fact. Being a homeowner/handyman...you must have a cordless drill(or regular) kicking around..throw one of these.. http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardware ... ogId=10053 and your good to go or if you have the smaller ones kickin around..tape'm together
I've had enough and I'm not alone

Here is the first coat. Just finished the second coat on her. May need one more but I look at is I should just keep putting coats on till I run out of Ford Blue paint. If anyone is ever going to do this and use POR15. A couple lessons.

A. Buy yourself some good brushes, the ones they supply start losing bristles rather quickly and than you end up with bristles permanently attached to your motor.

B. If you have the ability to spray this stuff do it! This would have been done hours ago if I had the equipment to do it.

C. Also get yourself a good pair of gloves. I bought the yellow one like grandma use to use for scrubbing dishes. The ones that come with the kit tear up real quick as well.

So on a side note I am glad I am not doing this for show, or I would never win. But for a 4 wheel drive toy it sure will look decent!

And without further interruptions. Here she is with one coat. The second coat is one her drying as I type!
