I looked, no marks, but I haven't run it very much with the tick going on. My dad had an idea that maybe I stretched the timing chain when I was trying to tune it. Being a novice, combined with my children playing with my cap and wires, caused me more grief getting the truck back on the correct firing order. I think in this process with it firing against itself stretched the chain. I don't know though I guess I will find out when I put the new chain on. I am also thinking about switching to an electronic fuel pump.

So not knowing it the fuel pump cam thing on the large sprocket is suppose to wiggle like it does I went ahead and decided to replace the mechanical parts. So about 65 dollars later from summit I got the following.

I had a problem years ago, cant remember the details, but it went something like this:
The engine (390 fe) had an aftermarket cam installed in it before I got it. There is a shim plate either behind the sprocket or in front of it that needed to be pulled out when the aftermarket cam was installed. the effect was that I could slide the cam fore and aft quite a bit, enough to have 2 lobes hit one lifter... I never heard it run that way since I bought it with an exploded lifter and fixed it before I started it.. The way your fuel pump eccentric moves reminds me of the problem I had...


see if the cam will slide back and forth, I cant remember the spec but if thats your problem youll know it...

Got the driveshaft made for my truck! And a new front tire put on the bike!

Got it mostly together, and drove it around the block. I have to check some things in the driveline, I have a vibration but man it is good to drive it!

Can you post specifics about the vibration? Does it vibrate the whole time or is it speed, rpm or load (accel or decel) related? Does it happen only in a narrow speed range or rpm range? Narrowing down exact circumstances of when it is vibrating vs when it's not will tell you a lot.

It rattles/shakes at all speed. Either a U-Joint isn't seated correctly or one of my driveshafts are not balanced correctly. Those are my first guesses. It was late sunday, and I didn't really check it out after the drive. Hopefully this upcoming weekend I will have a chance to check it out.

Yep, check all the joints and caps....

It is a speed and MOVING vibration, it does not rattle at idle (any more than you would expect from that beast). Tire balance will tend to get worse with higher speeds. Driveline vibs can do the same,and can sort of 'phase in & out' around certain driveline RPM's. A weak or improperly installed carrier bearing will give you grief. Is your truck lifted at all above stock height? Have you checked that your pinion angels cancel (close enough)?
