My brother moved in with me a couple of weeks ago and has been helping me with the truck. He took the grinder with a flap disc and a cup brush and worked the bottom over real good (Thanks Bro!). Then I took the sandblaster and hit all the places that couldn't be reached with the grinder. Then another good dosing with Purple Power and a good pressure washing. Gonna be a couple of weeks before I can get hold of a welder to tack the floor pans in and don't want it to rust, and still gotta cut out the hump cover but tomorrow the bottom gets paint on it. I'll hit it with the sander and shoot more paint on it when the pans get welded in.

Improvised a "paint booth" in the garage. Sprayed 2 coats of POR-15 and a coat of high gloss Chassis Black. Almost seems a shame to have to burn it when I get the floor pans welded in but going to be awhile before I can get to that. Tomorrow I'll lay it back down and rattle can some primer on the top half of the firewall just to prevent further rusting.

Yeah, unfortunately. And it'll ruin a good paint gun, clothes, stain skin, etc, if you don't get it off soon after spraying. Once it dries, paint thinner will take it off of skin with a little scrubbing but not off of clothes, plastic, etc.

Thanks! I'm using repro parts from DC and NPD. Except for the inner cab corner, that is. Nobody repops those so I'm going to improvise with sheet metal from work. It's not going to be exactly the same but I'm more interested in "form, fit and function" that show. Hopefully it won't be too bad and it'll be out of sight anyway.

"Volunteered" my step son to help me with some patch work.
weld1.jpg
Floor pan patches in and center hump patches added. Going to cut out the center to set the removable hump cover. A little sealer to make sure we don't have any cracks, a little grinding, and then that's done.
weld2.jpg
Tomorrow we tackle the cab corner.

Tacked the outer cab corner on, flipped it on it's back and worked out an inner corner cover up. Not perfect but it serves it's purpose.
2012-08-05_15-33-00_844.jpg
Welded the driver's side cab mount to the floor pan on bottom.
2012-08-05_15-33-15_141.jpg
A little more grinding, some sealer, and a little more paint and I'm "almost done with the bottom."

Edit: Added the "almost".. :D

looking good randy! with your POR-15, did you buy it in the kit with the prep spray and all that gear or just the paint itself?

I just bought the POR-15 itself and use local stuff for prep. First I bought a couple of quarts and did my frame. Then a couple more and did my rear suspension and some bits and pieces. Then a couple more and did my front suspension and some more bits and pieces. Then I said "to heck with this" and bought a whole gallon. I always put 2 coats on before top coating with gloss black. The gallon seems to go a lot farther than multiple quarts. I bought this paint gun http://www.harborfreight.com/20-oz-high ... 47016.html first and wore it out. Then I got smart and bought another one but bought disposable cups this time. That POR-15 will ruin a good paint cup fast. From here on out, I'll use disposable one's for POR-15 and the good one for primer. When I get ready for finish paint I'll be buying a GOOD gun.
