The 68 is OFFICIALLY STARTED!!

Post by Webb68F100 »

Ok guys it is started now just have to keep it moving, I will have serious questions as I am an extreme novice. I will post pics as soon as I can, today I pulled all the side trim off it is not goin back on so if one of yall need some trim and can do a little reshaping let me know. The interior is almost fully pulled apart i got the instrument panel glove box seat floor covering headliner and trim. a previous owner put speakers under the seat with nuts taped together with masking tape to raise the back of the seat (REDNECK!!) and they butchered the metal radio housing for an after market stereo little ticked about it. also got the tail lights out going with led in the rebuild. while I was in the back I got under the truck and there is alot of sand for the river bed near town, so it will take some work. I am wanting to update the brakes to discs all the way around and go with updated suspension front and back possible airbags to keep it level with the gas tank in the rear.

Figured it would be time to start one of these as I have been looking at the other ones on here and went crazy looking at some of the updates. Hope I can do as good of a job as yall, also this truck has little rust except in the front of the bed so I will have to address that soon. Ok its past my bedtime I have to get up and go do more work tomorrow!!

Good luck to everyone doing projects and I will attempt to get the pics up of the truck when I purchased it as well as the pics I took tonight when I called it a night.
:woohoo: :hd: :fr:

Webb,
Looks like a nice clean straight truck to start from!
Is that a "little 302" as some folks here call them I see?

Not a bad truck to start with, does not look like a lot of rust at all, sort of like mine when I started. Have fun with it and keep us posted.

Thanks guys the only damage on the truck is the passenger front quater panel and a small dent on the hood from a smalll fender bender (probably not so lucky for the other guy). and the passenger side front of the bed is bent in a few inches but other than that this thing is nice.

Jeff, you would be correct its rockin a 302 but I havent decided if I am going to rebuild it or get something different.

Fordman, the only rust I am worried about is in the front section of the bed, otherwise I am in good spirits the rest is surface only, I just need to find someone around here who can blast this thing, I have plenty of sand to donate haha.

Good luck guys, I will try and get pics up tonight

Here are a few more pics for y'all made some decent progress in about 5 hours. The weather has been HORRIBLY COLD for the last 3 weeks, I ran out of firewood and the Girlfriend demanded fire or bed so I had to go to bed. haha ok enough of me talking, hopefully this weekend I will be able to get down there and clean the truck up and see how bad the surface rust is in the cab floor and check the rust in the bed maybe do some sanding...
From the back

Trim is gone

Looking good Webb! A lot of progress even in the cold as I was this time last year.
Your floor boards look nice compared to a lot of ours, but you still might want to do a water test to the cab before you put all the hard work into the floor boards. And check the vents / wiper pivot gaskets / brake mounting / wiring bushings / windshield gasket. It will save you a lot of aggravation of doing all this hard work...only to find there are leaks that will reverse what you've done. :2cents:
I believe that DC sells patch panels for the bed area of our trucks.

When I finish this truck it is getting a room in the house haha.... I will definiately check those plus the PO not giving a damn about the truck and taking it to the river bed with all that damn sand but thanks for the motivation and I will get some progress this weekend the forecast says 60's so we will see.

NIce truck and progress. Tough to get out there when its cold but once you get going its usually not hard to find something on the bump to keep your attention....

Basketcase....aside from the obvious spraying water all around, is there any trick to the "water test" you mentioned?

Quick update I haven't been able to get into the shop to work on the truck because of a skunk in the shop... So tomorrow I am getting a trap to retake my shop! Oh the joys of country living in the Panhandle of Texas.

Hopefully I can get something done tomorrow during the day
