69 f-100 short bed coyote swap now Project Howlin'

Post by 48prerunner »

So Jeff was saying I should start a project thread. He helped me find a crown vic front for my project. Also Will helped me out with a frame and lots of good stuff I needed. Was going to just use a whole crown vic until I got the frame from Will. Anyhow I'll get some pics up soon Just got the frame into the garage today used the 8n bucket loader and some ratchet straps worked great.

Still playing with rear end ideas I have a 2000 explorer rear and also have a 81 or 82 f-100 9 " Think it will come down to back spacing on the wheels I find. I just found this info on putting crown vic discs on 9"

http://lists.twistedpair.ca/pipermail/c ... 37504.html

So will have to get out the tape measure would be nice to use the nodular 9" i have sitting on the shelf.

Last swap meet of the season tomorrow so will be a little while before pics.

Was having trouble finding rear width and to dark to go measure found this link.

Well project was coming along nice. Been working on the rear suspension and all was going well until taking out the last spring bushing the spring eye decided to split in half. So back to square one on springs think I might scrap the whole leaf spring idea and go 4 link with coil overs or air ride. Leafs were only to get it on the road and save some cash for the engine. At least the spring broke now instead of when truck was on the road.

It's a driver rebuilt carb so it doesn't leak and got the brakes working. This will make working on it much easier.

Defeintely a cool looking project. With the paint thing, to each his own. I like pretty new paint. the paint is what grabs attention.

Fixed the drivers side exhaust gasket.
Got the one side done yesterday what an adventure figure i could just weld a washer and nut on the broken bolt NOPE would just break off a piece of the bolt again ended up using the plasma cutter to get those two bolts out.
then when I get it done fire it up and now i can hear a small leak on pass side. I'll wait til I pull the front end to fix that one. Still not sure if i'm going to run this motor its like $600 for a bell housing to mount a 6 speed.

Well been a while for any progress. The leaf spring breaking really sucked up some time plus lost motivation. Was going to use springs out of an 80 f-100 i had but then said playing with all those old leaf springs was a waste of time. I found a set of dodge springs that had the right dimensions for me. Got the set for 110$ shipped. Pressed out the new bushings that were in there and adapted a set of energy suspension poly bushing to fit. I had to shorten them and change the inner sleeve of one to fit the 5/8 bolt i had drilled my new hangers out to to use either the 80 or the 73 springs. These springs are 2.5 wide. So in the rear I have new hangers from a ranger. Welded up the original mounting holes from the ranger and redrilled to fit the bump pattern Up front are the hangers off the 80 with the same mod so they bolt on in the stock position. The bump frame is 3 inches narrower than the 80 frame so I figure I have to move the spring perches in 1.5 each side. I'm also going spring under so i had to move them anyhow. Hope to have c notch done next weekend.

It's a roller got the nine inch rear under it and the rear wheels on. I'll have to post up pics. Hope to start on the c notch this week.

I must be missing it. How does the 600 fit into this?

I vote for the patina...just satin clear it to keep it from rusting away unless you want a little more yet (I'd ditch the side trim however if it were me and fill the holes). One of the coolest things I think is a weathered truck sitting over a fresh, mechanically sound, tricked out and lowered chassis with a fresh and reliable motor! So cool and a total sleeper!

well before i picked up the f-100 the green one. I was putting the red f-600 cab on the frame I bought with the fenders and grill I also picked up. The plan for the f-600 now is either put it on the left over parts and make a 4x4 or restore it back to full size truck.
