No...

But I still haven't figured out where I am going to run speakers. I may run some small box speakers at the base of the pillars between the doors and I can easily run that wire under the carpet. I also may run some small speakers under the dash pointed downward and that is easy to run too. So not too worried about the speaker wire.

So a few little photo updates on what I am doing with the wiring and how I am going to power all of the new electronics I am adding...

I took the plastic glovebox insert that came with my Classic Air system and hacked it up to make it my electronics mounting location. I picked up a secondary fuse box with 6 fused slots, and a second bus with 14 additional spades that I can run power from with in-line fuses if I choose... Right now, I will be using 10 of these spots. 6 will be hot, and 4 will be accessory which I will switch on with 4 relays I have. I mounted the fuse box on the right hand side of the glove box insert.
Image

The left side of the insert holds my hidden radio input where I can put a memory card, USB drive, or the auxiliary input which I use with my iPod.
Image

The center holds the hidden power outlet that I installed, and inside that is my "Monster" iPod charger/controller. I mounted the power outlet at an angle so the iPod controller will fit with the door shut. The cord with the iPod hookup will drop out the back of the glovebox and then down under the dash. It is long and I can bring it back to the center console of my truck where I will plug my iPod into it. It charges and plays the iPod all in one with just the charge plug. The controller has the earphone plug that is plugged into the auxiliary inside the glove box at all times.
Image

Here is an overall shot of the glove box insert. All of the power wires from the various items that will run off of this fusebox will feed into the glove box from the back slit I cut.
Image

Here are the two 6 gauge wires that will feed power to the two bays in the fuse box
Image

Here is where the power wires feed through the firewall and then into the large fuses that protect the line between the battery power and the fuse box. I have not cut the lines from here to the battery yet, but will once I wire up the engine bay.
Image

And while this looks like an absolute mess, I know everything that is going on here and have most of the truck hooked up. I still need to finish up a few things in the cab, but the majority of the stuff is done
Image

A previous owner of my truck had cut an extra hole in the dash for fog lights at one time, so I needed to do something with it. I cut the hole bigger to the correct size to take another cigarette lighter. So now I have 2 of them on the dash, on either side of the emergency flasher switch (which I moved from the glove box). This gives me 3 power plugs in the truck with the one in the glove box. :D
Image

Its coming along... Little by little. My goal is to get the motor started this Saturday. Bobbyford is coming over, so now I have extra motivation to meet my self imposed deadline..

This is a great looking project! It's inspiring me to invest more effort than previously planned into my 71 F100.

Do you have any plans on an approach to keep some yahoo from stealing it? Club? brake lock? kill switch?

Thanks,

I am installing and wiring an alarm system for the purpose of giving me a door fob for keyless entry. At this point, I dont know if I am actually going to use the alarm function or not. I may hook it up to the horn, but we will see. I do have a hidden button that needs to be pushed before the truck will start with the key. But that does not prevent someone from going under the hood and bypassing the ignition to start the truck, which people can do on just about any of our trucks.

So I am not sure. Luckily, I live in a pretty safe area and am not too worried about it. But still, I will more than likely do something. I am running an HEI dizzy, so I can probably hook up a hidden kill so that there is no spark unless the kill is activated. Something to think about...

Still working on wiring and trying to do it right the first time, so I don't have to go back and do it again. In otherwords... Very time consuming.

No pictures of any real progress at this point, but I do have pictures of the mess in my truck! :D

Oh, and I at least got my dash pad on. Only reason is that I need one of the dash studs to mount my relays to.

Spent the whole day today trying to get stuff done under the hood so we can fire the motor tomorrow. Still a few minor things to do in the morning before that can happen, but I got most of the stuff knocked out.

I could not find my starter solenoid, horn relay, or radiator cap, so went to my favorite auto part store today and got those. I finished up most of the wiring under the hood and as I was doing that, I put my new distributor in to make sure everything would fit. Well, the thermostat housing that Summit recommends I use with this HEI distributor does not give enough room for the dizzy to seat in the 460. So after some grinding, it now fits. Once I got the dizzy in place and my carb on the motor, I was able to finish my braided fuel lines and get everything run where it needs to go. Still need to do the vacuum lines, put my belts on, and a few minor wiring jobs, and then the motor should be ready to fire.

Only took a few pictures tonight before I called it quits for the night, so not much to see as it was getting dark anyway.

My old Holley carb (780 CFM), the new HEI dizzy, and the black braided fuel lines:

I planned on working by myself all day today, but I had a few friends show up and lend a hand. Mr. Leafbug hung out with me all day:
Image

And then Charlie the praying mantis was literally in my engine bay all night. Every time I needed to do something in the area where he was sitting, he would just move over to the other side of the bay and watch me. He finally left when I shut down my drop lights.
Image

Tomorrow morning, Bobbyford is coming over to give me a hand. So now that I put pictures of Mr. Leafbug and Charlie the Mantis in my thread, I am going to have to put a picture of Bobbyford too.

Well, Bobbyford came over today and hung out for several hours while he helped me in 100+ degree heat. Unfortunately, we did not get the truck started today as we ran into a few small setbacks. Spent a couple of hours rewiring a perfectly good starter only to find out that the brand new solenoid I bought yesterday was bad out of the box. We were thinking my mini-starter was crap and when I put the stock starter back in, we figured out the problem when the solenoid would not shut the starter down. So once we got that done, we took care of a few other things that needed to get done and then he had to leave for a prior commitment.

I had a few other projects to take care of anyway, and it is pretty close to being ready to fire now. So Bobby will be back tomorrow and hopefully we will have a video of the truck running at some point.

In the meantime, i finished up the wiring in the cab and my 11 new circuits in the glovebox. I am running 6 hot (off the new fusebox) and 5 off accessory using relays (off the attached bus).
Image

The relayed circuits are the AutoMeter gauges, the power socket in the glove box, the electric choke, drivers side power windows, and the passenger side power windows.
The 6 hot circuits are the extra cigarette lighter in the dash, the map lights in my rearview mirror, the clock, the stereo memory, power door locks, and the alarm system.

I got everything hooked up and the glove box installed, along with the door. It looks a little crowded in there, but all 11 fuses are located in the compartment and everything is labeled as well, so finding and changing a fuse in the future will be easy.
Image

Close the glove box door, and everything is hidden away with no one the wiser.
Image

** The picture on the glove box is not a sticker. It is a magnet of my buddy who passed away from cancer last Thanksgiving at the young age of 39. He helped me a lot with this truck when I first got it and my 72 when I had it, so that magnet will stay on the glove box door for as long as I own this truck.

Anyway, I also finished up wiring under the hood tonight (no pics) and was nervous as I hooked up the battery, supplying power to the new fuse box. No sparks and no explosions!
I then began testing some of what I hooked up. The good news is that everything has power. Also, the power windows work AMAZING!! Well, on the front windows at least. The rear driver window went down very slowly and then did not want to come back up. The rear passenger would not even go down. I don't think it has much to do with the motors, but those regulators were stiff in the past. I am going to have to go back into those doors and see what is binding.

Another small issue with the power windows is that I wired every one of them backwards. When I push up, the window goes down. When I push down, the window goes up. That's an easy fix though.

The testing of the power doorlocks is another story though. The system I got is supposed to lock all 4 doors when I lock one of the front 2. When I push down on the driver's door lock, I can hear the other doors try and click, but there is not enough power to pull the locks down. They move slightly, but do not lock. So I am not sure what is going on there. Something else I will have to dive into. In the meantime, I can still use the key and manually lock the doors like how it used to be. So not the end of the world.

Bobbyford came over today and the beast LIVES!!! Got the motor started, broken in, and it runs like a champ. The motor has no hesitation and sounds amazing. :hd: I have been trying to upload the videos from my phone to my photobucket account, but they have not shown up yet. So I will have to post them tomorrow. Hopefully they show up overnight.

Anyway, I have a few small things to take care of under the hood, but nothing major and everything runs great. I still have a little ways to go before the beast will be driving, but hearing the motor start up was a big step.

I will post the videos as soon as they appear in my account. :D

Oh, and THANK YOU again to Bobbyford for his help and guidance. The guy knows his stuff!

I finally got one of my videos to show up in Photobucket. It is a shorter smaller video that my phone edited for Instagram and because it is smaller, my phone was able to transfer it. Apparently the other videos are too large to upload. So I have been tearing my house apart looking for my SD Card adapter so I can put the micro card from my phone into my computer and download it that way. The USB cord direct connection is not working either. Pain in the butt..

Anyway, at least this video has flames shooting out of the headers!! :D :D :D

If I am able to get the other videos off of my phone, I will post them as well.

I was able to get the other videos off my phone, but they are too big for photobucket. So here they are on YouTube.

Truck walk-around during break-in: http://youtu.be/lFsdoFaXGr0

Break-in starring BobbyFord!! : http://youtu.be/qxNg7DjL33s

Flaming headers after break-in: http://youtu.be/aE0W1pcVFhA

That's it for now. After yesterday's accomplishment and working on it for the last 4 days non-stop to get it to where it would run, I am taking today off from working on the truck. I will start on it again this week after work and next weekend.
