tank sender unit and gas gauge

Post by 1guydude »

well I didn't know where to put this thread so general is kinda everything... right? lol

Do I need to replace my instrument panel voltage regulator prior to trouble shooting my sending unit for my gas tank? Id like to get some things back online and my gas gauge is one of the main ones. I know If I ground out the wires it will send the gauge to full but what else should I know? I haven't tried anything yet or even taken it apart to look at the float... thanks all.

Yeah riding around with no gas gauge is not fun!
You should be measuring 5 volts back there, (with the ignition switch turned to run / but never leave the switch in the run position as you can do damage to your ignition system).
Here's the fuel gauge tech tutorial that should help you too:

When you unplug the wire from the sending unit does the gauge go back to empty?
It sounds like the sending unit is stuck on full. It's not too hard to pull the sending unit out for a visual inspection-and to test it.
