Fordification Member Map! Tag yourself!

Madman suggested that Fordification have a map that could show member locations to help people find other members near them. This was done in the past with Frappr and was very well used and useful, but Frappr was shut down a while ago and all that data was lost.

I went ahead and created a new map for Fordification here: http://www.mapservices.org/myguestmap/map/Fordification

It is completely voluntary to use, but it is a cool tool to actually get a visual and see what other bumps might be nearby and maybe help some people get together that might not otherwise know they were in each other's backyards. You dont need to tag your exact location, maybe use a nearby landmark or town instead. But it will give people a general idea of your location.

When going to the map and adding a tag for yourself, please use your Fordification name for your name which will make it easier to cross reference. Most people are putting in their bump info for the comment, but as long as the name matches this site, thats all that really matters!

I put this here in a new thread so others might easily find it. The link was buried halfway down another thread before.

EDIT: People have also been uploading pictures of their trucks along with their tag, and if you click on "Message Board" under the map, it gives you a list of all the current tags along with nice collection of bumpside pictures. If anyone makes a mistake in placing their tag and cannot edit it, send me a PM and let me know and I will delete your tag for you and you can place a new one. This also goes for anyone that already placed a tag and might want to add a photo. Let me know and I will delete your current tag and you can place a new one!

Just got the map up and running today, but it should have a good number of markers on it in the next few days I would guess. I zoomed in on a couple to find multiple markers near each other already. Madman, it looks like you already have 1 neighbor.

My memory could easily be wrong about this, yet I thought there was already an online member map thing happening, though it hadn't seen much action in recent years.

I've added myself to this one though.

EDIT: just made a funny observation. The only three guys who chose the "cowboy hat" avatar were all on the West coast, myself included. There has to be deep meaning in that.

Just played with the page a little more and added an address search function. The only thing I dont like about it is as soon as you type in an address or location, the PLACE MARKER bubble opens partially, and the close button is part of whats missing (along with name). To get past this, just click somewhere else on the map and a new bubble will open to replace the broken one. You can then close this new bubble.

I also added the little bendy letter verification for one extra step to make sure that bots dont access the page and spam it. There were already a couple of markers placed with no information, so I deleted those. But this extra step should at least make sure the markers are placed by humans.

Yeah Robroy, that was a few years ago and it was done with Frappr. The Frappr website closed down and all of the maps and data that people had been using were lost and gone. Hopefully this one lasts a lot longer than Frappr did. Frappr was slow and buggy anyway and this one seems to run fast and smooth using Google maps.

Ha! You know you can zoom in, right? You got yourself smack dab in the middle of Nevada like you are living in Area 51..

You have an hour to edit your tag before the self editing turns off. If anyone wants me to delete or edit their tag for them after that, just let me know and I can do it as an admin.

Rich, thanks for the explanation! I dig this map you've set up. It's strange that even though we already know where most members live, just seeing them on the map is like finding out all over again. It's fascinating.
