What tools are a must.

Post by amishbuggy »

What tools are a must for a Bone Yard Surgeon? The tools have to be carried because there is no access by vehicle.

1) Cordless impact.
2) Cordless drill
3) Go-thru socket set
4) Cordless saws all
5) Framing hammer
6) Screwdrivers
7) Cordless grinder
8) Camera
9) Wasp spray
10) Dykes

If anyone has any other tools please add to the list, or if a tool or tools need to to be removed please do so. The vehicles that I'm trying to get at are about 1/2 mile up hill and there are stacks of crushed cars that have to be climbed over, squeezed thru and generally a pain in the a$$ to get to.

I used this set when I did my body swap on my truck. I know it would have taken me a lot longer without this set. I carry it in my truck at all times it is that important to me. And than I also got a set of ratcheting wrenches. I also have them on me at all times too.

This set is 20$ at my lowes, and hasn't once failed.

the usual... wrenches, sockets, both 1/4 & 3/8 stuff. add 1/2 in of you're going for suspension components. Now for the oddities i carry. torx bits, both regular & tamperproof. Vise grips & channel locks. small hammer. masking tape & a sharpie. roll of window removal wire. inspection mirror & telescoping magnet. wobble extensions.small pack of claning wipes, to de-funkify my hands. My box is not light to carry, but with what i have assembled over the years, i can get 99% of anything i stumble across.

Those are very good items, I think I may have to use a back pack.

I bring so many tools that I can barely carry my box around the yard. I'm getting wise next time I go and wheeling them in on a hand truck or a wagon. The wagon is useful to haul parts out too.

We have an LKQ franchise nearby that supplies a whole fleet of wheelbarrows.
they have two space saver spares on them so they roll easier and are stable.

I have one of these I got at WallyWorld. IIRC, I paid around $70.00
I love it! It hauls all my tools into the yard, and hauls the parts out. Beats a tipsy wheel barrow any day!

That's a nice wagon but it might be a little difficult to navigate over piles of cars, and thanks to Mr. Rheumatoid Arthritis my left hand is constantly tied up with a cane, which puts a cramp in my style and makes it so I have to really plan things out because I'm good for about 1 trip a day. I suppose that would'nt be to bad but this bone yard is 45mi from home, so I want to make sure that I have tools to remove the delay wiper set-up from a 84 F-250, both the 600 panels, the tach and any other fun stuff I find, with keeping in mind that I have 1 arm to carry everything. I'm going to have to dig out my backpack.
