It seems like owning a house and having to put  on shingles is a fact of life so now that we're on the subject ,here is my past summer roofing job. I had my brother come out from Ontario and my second oldest just came home from University and they went to work with me to do the job. It was a big job because there were 3 layers of old shingles on the roof, one layer of cedar shake and two layers of asphalt. This is a house that we're fixing up to sell, and a new roof is a good investment.

Thanks Robroy, yes it did improve it a lot,the old moss covered cedar shingles had to go. They were really getting soft ,the only reason they didn't leak is because of the two old layers under them.

And here I was thinking "I'm da-man" for putting up a patio cover... Not!

You guys are my new heros!    And you are right about the roof being a good investment.  That's what sold me on this house (the roof had just been done a few months prior).

Awesome job guys!

Thanks Happy, It's not a bad job if you have good company. My older brother and I have always been good friends and have done many things together over the years.I offered to pay round trip airfare from Ontario to British Columbia if he'd come and help me, and to also have some quality brother bonding time together. We had a good time ,but taking off the old shingles wasn't fun. The beer sure did taste good at the end of the day though.
