Rarity of my 1968 F250 Ranger XLT Camper Special?

Post by 69Fordsky »

Hey everyone. I picked up this original 1 owner 1968 f250 ranger xlt camper special last week. It has the original 390/c6 with the emblems on the lower front fenders, Ranger xlt script on the glovebox, Ranger emblem on the grill and ranger script on each bedside. Behind the seat below the window is carpeted. It has factory AC and a special glovebox since the AC unit protrudes into what would be the original glovebox. It was an original paint truck and was just repainted by the PO before I got it. He showed me pictures. I do have the trim that goes on the bump as well. But…a 68 ranger xlt camper special f250? I heard no such thing could possibly exist. How rare is this truck?

You can order the Mardi report that will detail every aspect of it's build from the assembly line as it rolled out of Dearborn Ford plant to confirm without any doubt, (most guys who have trucks that rare would do this).

Not sure if the 68 Ford literature will help you any or not but here it is, (the 68' Ford salesmen's brochures might lead you to some info):

I've never heard of a Ranger XLT before 1970, let us know what you find out from the Marti report. Nice looking truck!!! The emblem in the picture of the glove box XLT looks different that the 1970 to 1972 XLT emblems?

Yes, the Ranger XLT didn't come along until 1970, so a previous owner has simply removed the Ranger emblem and installed a later Ranger XLT emblem.

The carpet behind the seat may mean that was a bucket seat truck, my '67 has that, but an unmatched bench seat has been swapped in. Look for an extra 4 holes under the seat.
Or, a previous owner may have added the carpet, a Marti report will say.
