I have recently inquired about a 1967 Mercury M100 that is for sale and found this thread very helpful for identification purposes. I have read through this thread but i apologize if i missed the answer to this question:

I'm assuming that the Ontario plant produced both Mercury and Ford pickups so the assembly plant code for Ontario in and of itself is not sufficient to confirm a true Mercury pickup - correct?

That's true; Fords and Mercs were both built side by side on the lines at Oakville and San Jose. The best bet to truly confirm a '67/'68 Merc is to get one of Kevin Marti's reports. There's lots of fakes out there. Look carefully at cowl nameplate mountings and under the hood for filled holes to eliminate the obvious ones. DSO codes are also quick indicators as per information given earlier.

Both of these were built at Oakville. More examples blowing away the fairy tale of production ending in march '68.
If there's anyone reading this that actually sold these trucks in '68 or was employed at Ford and has relevant information regarding the end of Mercury production, or even assembly line pics, please feel free to contact me. Thanks!

...interesting that no radio or power steering were ordered originally; pretty sparse for options. Dealer could make more profit adding stuff later. Cool to see the dana 60 5 bolt diff. They're pretty scarce 8)

I’ll contribute to this page, I just picked this M250 up from northern Idaho and hauled down to Northern California, was pulled out of a barn a few days ago near Edmonton where it sat for the last 30 years. It’s a late production 68, only 4 digits off from serial number of the crew cab posted earlier. In absolutely incredible shape

Thanks for sharing that! The repaint looks pretty good. The serial is actually about 50 trucks prior to the tan crew cab.
Interesting that Marti calls it just the 'custom' package instead of the custom cab pkg. There was no Custom label before '70, when it became the base model. The custom cab pkg became the 'sport custom', and of course, there were the two levels of Ranger. Also interesting the orig owner didn't spring for the gauge pkg or power brakes. Truly fascinating how many possible combinations these trucks could be assembled into. These were obviously the days before the marketers developed the art of combining options in more sensible packages.

Interesting items available in 1/25 scale from a great resin caster...

The flareside gate fits '53-'72 short flareside models and the regular gate will work for '65/'68 trucks. The thin pieces are the '65/'66 merc front letter panels below the hood. He also offers hubcaps and fender nameplates; and as an aside, a corrected wheelbase '73-'79 box for the amt series. A model company named moebius has brought out our trucks in 1/25 scale and these will fit those. The cab has fairly obvious proportion problems, unfortunately, but these roof problems can largely be rectified by grafting in the cowl/windshield and front half of the roof of the amt f350 series cab. A link to a visual of this process can be seen in the 'moebius f100 issues' thread at the 'modelcarsmag' website. Sadly, the '67-'69 grills were badly botched as well but an outfit called 'rookie resin' had made some nicely corrected grills.

I came very close to successfully building a Mercury "clone" truck back around 2010, (I found a 68' Mercury in NE Georgia and most of the lower body was toast from it's Canadian winters in salt) but the tailgate was pristine so I was gonna use it to start a Mercury clone-along with proper badging etc., (but the tailgate was pristine so I was gonna use it to start a Mercury clone-along with proper badging etc)

SOLD-71 F-350 dually flatbed, 302 / .030 over V-8 with a "baby"C-6, B & M truckshifter, Dana70/4.11 ratio, intermittent wipers, tilt steering, full LED lighting on the flat bed, and no stereo yet (this way I can hear the rattles to diagnose)! SOLD!
Many Ford bumps / one 76' EB / and several dents through the years.
A lot of "oddball" Ford parts collected from working on them for 34 years now!

ONE Thing I have seen is many Mercury clones on the 66 to 68 trucks due to the fact on Vin # and the 65 and below cannot be cloned without serious number changing and big reason is those trucks had a totally different set vin numbers and not the F10 you would find now back in the late 40's 50's might be totally different again

Cool thread, I figured it could use a bump! I know this is outside the '67-'68 parameter, but it's my only Merc., and thought some may like it.

Sadly, it is so rusty it's become a parts truck, (tow trucks get used in the worst weather imaginable). I bought it for the windshield, which will go in my '62 unibody, and have used the mirrors on my F700.
