I very rarely buy stuff from the parts stores locally any more, unless I absolutely have to.

Thanks, everyone. The way their prices are, I think I'll give them a shot. Thanks again for the info!

Used them once so far with good results, would do it again and the price was the best that I could find.

I like buying from them. The only thing to watch for is shipping cost. Sometimes they will send items on the same order from different warehouses and the costs add up.

Good day 19Agin,

I bought a bunch of brake parts, shocks, and other things I'm forgetting from Rock Auto over the past few years.

So far my experiences have all been positive, and it was actually much more pleasant to order the parts that way than it would have been in most walk-in parts stores.

As Paul mentioned, be sure to get your 5% off discount. It seems like one's always available if you search around.

I like that you can see all the different options that you can get for each part (when available), whereas the local part store only gives you what they have. You can also find Motorcraft parts there too. I have used them for my Bump, my Durango and my wife's MINI.

Brand name parts, cutting out the idiot at the parts counter who is just looking at a computer screen and info you can't find elsewhere–what is there not to like? :hmm:

I used them once. Ordered an 02 sensor. All the local stores wanted around $55, I got it from them for $25. Even with shipping I came out way ahead. I'll use them again if I ever need to save money and have time to wait for a part. Positive experience for me.

I have been ordering from them for the last month or so for our Thunderbirds, their parts seem to be a whole lot better priced then local stores and they have a much better selection. So far we have only gotten one bad thing from them in several orders, a trunk lock cylinder for the wife's '92 that the supplied keys did not work with. I e-mailed the customer support this morning and they got back to me right away, even though it is Sunday. They are sending a replacement part in the morning and were very friendly in the e-mails.

I always look for the discount code, as they always have a code for 5% off. Shipping seems to be pretty quick as well.

For now, I see me having a lot more orders in the near future with this place. I am in awe at some of the prices, I even got a Motorcraft distributor from them for less then an aftermarket company.

Two things to pay attention to with RockAuto:

1) WATCH THE SHIPPING - let's take my current cart for example. I have a set of 8 Autolite AP25 plugs, a closeout wireset from Federal, a headlight switch from Standard, a distributor cap and rotor, also from Standard. Everything ships from one location via UPS Ground ($11.27) except the closeout wireset. Why did I choose it? Because this is a $5.58 set of 8 spark plug wires. It ships Priority Mail which is $6.70 so that's $12.28 total for that part. If I choose the other wiresets, some of them ship from different warehouses and end up costing $10-$11 to go UPS Ground for an $8-$10 wireset. Some of them come from the same warehouse as my other parts, but it changes those to UPS Ground and the shipping bumps from $11 to $18 and those wiresets are even more expensive so it's not worth it. Keep an eye on the cart, if you add a ton of parts and then look and see they're shipping from 7 different suppliers, you're going to be spending a lot of money on shipping that you don't have to. Look for the truck icons to keep everything coming from one location.

2) GET THE FEED - I take the interactive catalog and drill down to my vehicle. Then I click the orange RSS feed icon. I get an email every few weeks with all their closeout deals. When you get the email, it looks like this:

http://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclefeed ... &html=true

This is awesome stuff. I caught a deal off this RSS Feed and picked up a bunch of 87-cent Wix oil filters last summer. Sold some on eBay, kept some for my car. This is another reason to watch the shipping. I wanted to buy a lot of oil filters. I put 24 in the cart and the shipping was like $30. Then I tried 12 filters and it was $12 or so. Tried 13, still $12 to ship. Kept moving up and found the sweet spot was 20 filters, $14.24 to ship. At 21 filters, it must have added a second box which took the shipping up to $30ish. So for about $32, I got 20 oil filters, sold 16 for $4 each, doubled my money, and had 4 filters left over for myself. I do this when I buy spark plugs, air filters, fuel filters, bulbs, fuses, anything consumable.
