motor stand

Post by lobuck76 »

I ordered a 1 ton rated motor stand today, AC Delco from the partshouse. I was wondering if anyone has one of these or knows if they are worth having. I don't want the 360 to land on my toes.
I don't know how they rate these things, but the one I have is rated for 1250 and it's pretty cheesy. I've had a couple of smallblock motors on it and got by ok. The last time I used it was for a 300/6 cyl.motor and that was asking alittle too much of it I think.
Any input would be appreceated. Ron

I got a 2,000 lb HF special - On-sale for around $75 - Handled my AMC 360 with no problems. Go to harborfreight.com and plug 04420 into the item number search.

Hey Rockcrusher, thanks for the input. I picked up the motor stand today. It looks pretty decent. I bet it's just like the one from harbor freight, I paid a few bucks more the ac delco stickers. It looks like it should hold up ok. Maybe I'll get to try it out this weekend. :D

Take it from a guy with an FE on a parts store engine stand in his garage.

If it is one of the 3 wheel types, don't even try it.

like: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=32915

If it is one of the ones with 4 wheels that looks like a 3 wheeler with an extra "T" on one end it might be serviceable.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=32916

If you want Ideal go for a 4 wheeler like:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... umber=4420

or

It's simular to the last 2. It's got the extra wheels in the middle, you can slide out the front legs for storage. Ron

That ought to work then.

I've seen folding "GoodYear" ones at Sams club that are nice as well.

I've got one of the lighter ones that I've used some, but I never had much faith in it. I usually kept the front of the motors propped up with a 2x4 to keep some of the bind off of the stand. It has 4 wheels and a wide stance. But, it's made out of some pretty thin square tubing.
I guess I got my 39.95 out of it.

When dealing with H.F. always remember to play both ends against the middle. Sometimes they have different prices on the same item. The sale catalogs from the store are generated from a different source than the other catalogs. If your main catalog has a lower price and you have it with you then the store will give you the lower price. I am not sure if the mail order catalog honors the store sale prices tho.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
