Machine shop project many pics

Post by eggman918 »

I have been modifying the water pump pulley to accept a clutch fan, this has been a great project for a small shop.
It has enabled me to use all my tools and my brain to there fullest :hmm: and it's been a LOT of fun,it's good to stay sharp.
This is the link http://s1042.photobucket.com/albums/b42 ... er%20pump/
I hope this helps those of you that think about buying machine tools to take the plunge
Anyone interested in machine shop/metal working feel free to contact me if I can be of any help.

You are mounting a fan to the 4BT water pump?

Yes I have a 15" CCW rotation clutch fan from a AMC 4.0L.
My thought was to have a small fan that is overdriven it will be working most at low speed 4x4 in summer
so I felt that this would be a good choice.
What say you?

My thoughts were the water pump bearings are small compared to the fan hub bearing, you can never buy an off the shelf waterpump and replace it on the side of the road in BFE, the fan is going to be 6" offset to one side and the regular cummins fan hub is a pretty nice piece, one of the high points of these engines from an adaptability and ruggedness standpoint.

That and you don't actually need a fan. Period. You will have a far harder time getting the engine up to temp than keeping it cool.

You may be right I ran the numbers on a 6203 bearing,so I am going to retrofit a 5203 bearing when I overhaul
the water pump.I will not run fan and after first summer desert run I will know if it will be needed.
I welcome your critiques as I get carried away at times.
I am hunting for the M5R2 as we speak,so I have been daydreaming again
