WTB: Front Driveshaft for Short-Tail C6

Post by colnago »

I'm changing from a long-tail to a short-tail C6. So, I will be needing the front driveshaft. Does anyone have one collecting dust that they need to clear out? Sorry, shipping a driveshaft has got to suck, but I have to ask. At least it's just the front shaft ...

Please let me know.

is this the same c6 tail you have, if so will have one for sale when I swap to a t19 close ratio. I am being delayed currently do to one small part that became no show.

That looks right. My C6 has a 10-spline output shaft, with the U-joint bolted directly to the shaft. I don't remember the size of the nut; probably 15/16" or 1". My current C6 has the long output shaft, so I'm definitely going to need a new shaft when I do the swap. I can take some measurements tomorrow.

I came up with my c6 being about thirty and a half inches long, this is front edge of the bellhousing to the inside of the u-joint. the driveshaft for the c6 I have is twenty two inches long, this is from the inside of the u-joint to the outside face near the spines.

I need to measure the driveshaft length again tomorrow, when I have more light. My C6 is ~29" and change. A SWAG for long-to-short is ~7". My current driveshaft is ~18". Your C6 driveshaft might be too short, which is why I need to get out with better light. I'll keep you posted.

Does your C6 have a slip yoke, or does it have a nut at the end? Mine has the nut, so the U-joint bolts to the output shaft, and does not use a slip yoke.

my c6 has a flange bolted to the output of the transmission and may be off by a half inch do to having to mesher at a slight angle.

I still haven't had time to crawl under and make more careful measurements. Probably Friday morning.

I  took some measurements of my tail housings tonight. The long one is 14" long, and the front of it to the center of the slip yoke is around 17". The short housing is 7", and the distance from front to yoke is about 9-3/4". This gives a difference of roughly 7-1/4". The current front shaft is 18-5/8" from center of yoke to the front of the carrier bearing, and 26" from yoke to the end. So it looks like I need a shaft that is around 25-7/8" from yoke to bearing, and 33-1/4" from yoke to end. If I end up putting it all in without the front shaft in hand, then I should be able to get an exact measurement.
