Lost another part! Coil spring upper spring seat.

Post by sargentrs »

Ok, so I've done it again. I've lost another part. Not even sure what to call it. 1970 F100 2WD. I'm looking for the front coil spring upper spring seat cup. Need both sides. Part 5A349 in this diagram http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... eams02.jpg It's the top piece that sandwiches the bottom of the coil spring. I've got the bottom part, bolts and nuts, but I can't find my top pieces. Anybody got a spare set laying around or the Ford OEM part number so I'll know what to ask for?

Really? I need 2. Man, you are a life saver. First my parking brake equalizer and now my spring seats. What would I do without you Larry?

I'm right in the middle of installing a steering column in my buddy's '75 F250, that's TWO steering column jobs in less then two weeks (in between about two millon smoke and coffee breaks, oh and going on line here) so I doubt I'll get to them today. I've got side jobs lined up for the next 3 months at this rate...a GREAT thing!

I'm supposed to go over to my buddy's house tomorrow and cut up about 6 Ford truck frames for him to scrap out. I'm betting that all of those frames have all the pieces you're looking for as they're all Bump 2WD chassis.

Don't worry guys, all of the other parts have been removed from the chassis to be sold at a later time...

If not, I know I've got them here in all of my junk. Just be patient with me...I'm slow as the dickens but I WILL get to them for you.

We'll handle it just like we did the last go around if that's OK with you?

5A307 is stamped steel. The coil spring seats in it.

Not trying to take anything away from Larry but thought you might like to know...
They are repopped. DC has the lower spring seat for $30 and the lower spring retainer for about $10 new. I had a used set here from my EB that might have worked but there appears to be different part numbers for the different years?
Aren't you bolting in a dent front beam disc brake assembly Randy? :hmm:

Gee THANKS Jeff...and I was gonna get $75.00 a piece from Randy and you come along and ruin it!!!

...in all seriousness though...

Randy, Jeff does bring up a good point about Bump versus Dent parts...they MAY??? be different and my old eyes can't see it.

I've got access to BOTH Bump and Dent parts and I'll have a better look-see if there is a difference. Again at MY pace which is somewhere between SLOW and OFF...

...oh yeah, I'll also compare F-100, F-150 (Dent), F-250 and F-350 parts as there are 1965 through 1979 F series trucks in my Private Reserve...ain't the wide open SoCal Desert wonderful...

Jeff, from what I can tell, the bump 4wd parts are easily found but only the bottom bump 2wd part (5A307) is repopped, not the top part (5A349). And the 4wd parts appear to be different from the 2wd. The only other similar parts I found were different with two holes, off center, instead of a big 3/4" hole through the center. I could be wrong, I googled until I started going cross eyed.

Larry, at this stage in the game, $75 would be worth it. You reach a certain point where it's like a jigsaw puzzle with one piece missing. It may seem inconsequential but without it the picture can't be completed. Actually, all I did was get a set of '74 disc brake spindles and dust shields. The rest of the front suspension is my old '70 parts. The king pins were the same until '75 so the disc brake spindles are direct swap out with the drum brake spindles. Needed new king pin bushings anyway so it was an easy mod. I've got the bottom half of the lower seat, retainers, bolts/nuts, etc. Just somewhere in the past year I've misplaced the top cup of the lower spring seat assembly. Any help you can give is tremendously appreciated!

Guys,
I might have posted the above prematurely? I didn't realize there was a difference in 2WD to 4WD either. I have a pair of them here from my old EB and they do have the two bolt holes like you said Randy. I didn't see the 2WD ones in NPD.
Alright Larry...take $5 off and Randy will buy them LOL!
