Help I'm new to the site

Post by Charlie67f100 »

Hello everyone I have a 67 f100 that I'm installing a 390 fe in. It had a old 390 in it that was in rough shape I pulled it out and it has a c6 automatic trans but when dropping it in the flex plate keeps binding and not allowing the motor to go back in place and sit on the mounts any advice?

Welcome to the site.

There may be a couple things.
Make sure a pilot bushing from an old manual trans isn't in the end of the crankshaft .
I'm not sure about the FEs but the 429/460 used different pilot sizes on the torque converter , double check that.

And what I like to do is get some 7/16 bolts (coarse thread) and cut the heads off and cut a slot in the end ,
and use them for aligning pins for the bell housing.
Use a jack to get the front of the tranny up.
Make sure the fly wheel lines up to the torque converter studs.
Try that and check back in.

:wel: from California! Check to see that your torque converter is properly seated in the pump. You may want to post your question under the Drivetrain section, more folks will see your question and be happy to help. :fr:
