New guy need help with a 70 F100 Explorer Sport Custom

Post by fencepost0_1 »

I currently don't have any photos of the truck but will post some soon. I inhereted the truck from my grandfather and he bought it 2nd hand when it was about 1-2 years old. It is an explorer with matching numbers motor, trans, everything. LWB I have converted the truck to a 79 power disc set-up and power steering, he always wanted that but never done it. Just has surface rust. The engine is a 302 but the heads are from a mustang, edelbrock performer intake, crane cam, photonex ignition, and holley 650. The engine is all blue with the old oil bath breather, wanted to keep the stock look. The trans is new, C4 I think, it's original to the truck with a B&M shift kit. Really only needs the rear end to be rebuilt and the drive train will be all new. It is a chartuse green with green interior and the original plad benck set. He had it covered with a vinyl cover when he bought it so the set looked new but it does have a broke spring and a hole in the top but the plad centers are in great shape. I have let the truck sit for some time and recently have took intrest in it again. Need help with the paint code, I don't have it in front of me but it is the same light green as the truck on the cover of LMC in fact my truck looked exactly like this one below when new. Any help would be appreceated and I'll look up my paper work on it. Really need a Dupont paint code for that color as the PPG I got from the color library is to dark.Image

Thanks for the welcome. Found time to grab a few quick pics. It's usually cleaner than this and the front right tire has started leaking down every few days but it never fails to start right up and run like a dream. Has been the most dependable truck I have ever owned.

My color code number is "3" there is not a "3" listed in the VIN ID section. It's deffenantly a 3 not an 8.

Welcome from N. Georgia! Here's a link to the paint colors for 1970.....Maybe you can pick out from there. There's a Martin Senour and a PPG page.

Could it be the PPG 2256 Explorer Green? It says it's code 3.

Yes I found it after I said I couldn't find anything thanks for the help. Still haven't figured out how to subscribe to certain posts or threads yet. I'm looking at keeping the body original with the exception of the gauges which I still have the original dash, I got another one to cut up and install after market. also will be installing a chevy blazer gas tank under the bed but will leave the original gas filler neck just for looks. The tires are 31x10.50 would like to find a set of sloted mags to give it that 70's prerunner look or shop truck look. Other than that nothing will change except it will be shinny

by either posting a response or going all the way to the bottom left of the thread page and clicking the "subscribe" line. It way down on the very bottom left.

You can adjust your notifications about responses to your threads in your user control panel.
